Description of project

Huanglong Sports Center is located in the beautiful West Lake, next to the famous Huanglong Cave scenic area, with Tianmushan Road in the north, Shuguang Road in the south, Yugu Road in the west, and Huanglong Road in the east, covering an area of more than 580 mu.

Huanglong Sports Center is a modern sports facility with the largest scale and the most complete functions in Zhejiang Province. It is a multi-functional place integrating sports competition, artistic performance, fitness and entertainment, catering and accommodation, business office and shopping exhibition. Its main stadium has become one of the landmark buildings in Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou City.

Huanglong Sports Center consists of the main stadium, gymnasium, swimming and diving hall. During the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, it will undertake three major sports, namely football, gymnastics (competitive gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline) and water polo, and athletics events of the Asian Para Games.

Design concept

The main stadium

The main stadium, located in the center of the Yellow Dragon Sports Center, has a total floor area of 103,000 square meters and a seating capacity of 60,000. It will host the football group matches and finals of the Hangzhou Asian Games and the athletics events of the Asian Para Games.

According to the nature of the building, geographical location, architectural style, using a variety of lighting, perfect display and shape the building night image, fully reflect the artistic effect of the building and ornamental value。

Through 12 sets of 8-meter LED lights and 32 sets of 4-meter LED lights, the outer facade of the stadium is lit. The use of different light colors and the transformation of movement trajectory, to create a dynamic effect, highlighting the "dynamic Asian Games, wonderful Yellow Dragon" design concept.

In the inner space of the outer facade, the architectural skeleton of Huanglong Stadium is fitted and lit by the lamps projecting from the upper and lower angles, and the details are presented by the light, so that the grand stadium is more three-dimensional and full of spirit.

In order to have a clear and open visual environment during night sports, and take into account the overall aesthetics of the runway, the lamps are uniquely installed in the railing handrail, light but no light, full of immersive atmosphere.

The gym

The total construction area of the stadium is 25,000 square meters, and the number of audience seats is about 8,000. It will host the Hangzhou Asian Games

 gymnastics (competitive gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, trampoline) competition.

For the lighting of the stadium, the fusion architecture is semi-surrounded by two circular arc structures that complement each other. Considering the distance between the surrounding stadiums and the overall design style of the stadium group, it pays more attention to the quality, intelligence and low carbon in the processing of lighting than the quantity.

The gym uses the form of wall washing to outline the unique arc line of the building facade. On weekdays, the warm color is 3000K, and on festivals, it changes with the overall color of the stadium through the intelligent master control system.

Swimming and diving hall

With a total construction area of 480,000 square meters and more than 2,900 seats for spectators, the swimming and diving hall will host the water polo competitions of the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The east and west sides of the facade of swimming diving hall is very distinctive. The glass curtain wall is irregular vertical aluminum veneer curtain wall. The single body is like a paddle, and the whole is like the West Lake spray.

On both sides of the veneer curtain wall, LED line lights are embedded in it to outline irregular shapes. Different perspectives reflect different light and dark rhythms, just like the breeze, reflecting the beauty of Jiangnan incisively and vividly.

After a full range of transformation including lighting, Huanglong also shows a new look, full of vitality. An Asian Games grand meeting has become an important opportunity to promote the development of the city and foresee the future value of the city.
